SisterDarling is back for First Thursdays and is taking over Verona!
After a two month trip overseas, SisterDarling, a.k.a Meghan Geliza, is back with fresh new work, incorporating more elements from one of her biggest influences as a young girl - 19th century literature.
Books on gardens kept by lock and key, whaling voyages, and sisters coming-of-age fueled her imagination as a kid, just as much as animation, particularly Merrie Melodies, Looney Tunes, Disney and films by Studio Ghibli.
Her new body of work takes on a slightly more nostalgic slant, while still portraying, through her alternate worlds, that beautiful conflict between that human desire to set down roots and be stationary, and that other desire to be mobile and free.
She was one of the 8 feature artists in December's First Thursday's, and was chosen as one of the Single Artist Wall artists to exhibit at 2009's New Zealand Art Show. She also took part in a collaborative show Metonymy 2009 and Crossover's 2009 launch and group show. Graduating from the Wanganui School of Design, she paints in acrylic on wood.
