Jesse Watson graduated from Auckland University of Technology in 2002 with a Bachelor of Visual Arts majoring in painting. He has been selected as a finalist in the Wallace Art Awards every year since 2006 and has shown with Seed gallery for the last 6 years.
Watson uses bold shapes and colour to imply what he terms 'new realms of visual noise'. His paintings are composed in a style akin to music, building layer upon layer to form an eclectic track of rhythm and rhyme. Like music, Watsons images wax and wane. They appear to corrode and slip away before the viewer's eyes, evading a cohesive reading. Some are reduced to suggestive marks on the canvas. Images, forms, specks and lines co-exist as an orchestrated community of components; paced by a metronome of canvas.
